Recipe Notes:
Creating fun ocean creatures:
Starfish- Cut a large marshmallow in half. Then use a star cutter or scissors and the star shape. Roll the star in crushed graham crackers.
Floating teddy bears– Add a teddy graham into a gummy lifesaver.
Laffy Taffy lounge chairs– Grab a few mini Laffy Taffy’s, warm up the Laffy Taffy’s in the microwave for just 5 seconds to be able to fold them in half. Fold and create a lounge chair.
Don’t forget to add in gummy sharks, peach rings, Swedish fish and friends, and Air Xtremes.
Creating ocean waves- The Cool Whip will blend with the Jello as it sets, resulting in a creamy and fluffy texture. Just keep in mind that the addition of Cool Whip may slightly alter the texture and firmness of the Jello compared to using Jello alone. Scoop out whipped Jello and place on top of the set Jello to create the wave texture.
Yes, you can use any type of flavored gelatin for the ocean dessert. Popular flavors for an ocean-themed dessert include blue, green, or tropical fruit flavors to resemble the colors of the sea.
While most gelatin already comes in various colors, you can certainly use food coloring to enhance or customize the colors if desired. Add a few drops of food coloring to the liquid gelatin mixture before it sets to achieve the desired shade.
Once the Jello ocean dessert is fully set, you can cover it with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.
Yes, you can make the ocean dessert in advance. It’s often recommended to prepare it a few hours or even a day ahead of time to allow it to fully set and the flavors to develop. Just make sure to store it properly in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
