The ultimate sandwich in a handy mini form.
Pop quiz time: What’s in a Big Mac?
That was an easy one, right? It’s two-all-beef-patties-special-sauce-lettuce-cheese-pickles-onions-on-a-sesame-seed-bun. It’s kind of the ultimate sandwich – an extra-large burger with everything.
Big Macs would make great party food, except for one problem: they’re too big. Guests come with different-sized appetites, and not everyone is hungry enough to scarf down two-all-beef-patties with everything. Some people might only want half of one, while others could easily eat two.
These Big Mac Sliders are the solution. They’ve got all the fixings that make the Big Mac so special, but in a smaller form that fits easily in one hand. So your guests can have just one, or as many as it takes to satisfy their appetite.
Of course, if you made these the way McDonald’s does – frying up each beef patty in a skillet – making a whole batch would be a real hassle.
So I use a simpler shortcut: I roast the beef in a big sheet pan, then lay it right on top of your tray of slider buns. Top it with the special-sauce-lettuce-cheese etcetera, put on the bun tops, and sprinkle on sesame seeds for that final on-a-sesame-seed-bun touch.
And presto, Big Macs for the crowd – no drive-through required.
How to make Big Mac Sliders
- Preheat oven to 350 F. In bowl mix together all sauce ingredients, cover and refrigerate.
- Combine your ground beef, salt and pepper and minced onion.
- In a large baking dish (we used 11″x13″) or sheet pan, press your ground beef into a rectangle (you can use a 9″x13″ pan for leaner ground beef that shrinks less).
- Bake in oven for about 20-25 minutes until internal temp reaches 165.
- Remove from oven and top with cheese, place back in oven and bake just until melted.
- Add bottom of slider buns to a baking dish, spread half of your sauce over the bottom of buns then top with shredded lettuce then top with your ground beef slice.
- Sprinkle on your chopped onions and then layer your pickles over top, drizzle with remaining sauce.
- Top with slider bun tops, brush with butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

I do love this recipe. Small size, indulging without going to the real thing.. Suggest toasting buns and using lean beef as these ended up a little sloppy.
Katie says

Laura Jean says
What fat % works best for the beef? I don’t want them to turn out soggy.
Nancy says
I made this using 93% lean ground beef. I baked it in the oven on the broiler pan so the grease would drip down into the pan below. I did not brush the top with butter. They came out really nice and they were not too greasy.
Kathi says
Love this recipe but I made them with the Hawaiian rolls – OMG – are they ever good. Thanks so much for posting this recipe. I had enough for 2 dinners as there is only me now.

How soon ahead could you make the meat section? I have family coming for graduation and will be busy and wanted something easy.

You could make that a couple days ahead of time and refrigerate. Great idea to save time!

I would make this again but with regular relish and no sugar. I made it with just the sweet relish, and the sauce was very sweet.
